Dr. Tina Tsai, O.D.
Optometrist Dr. Tina Tsai has been involved in the eye care profession since 1993. She received her Doctorate in Optometry with Honors from the University of California, Berkeley School of Optometry in 1999. She enjoyed considerable success as the owner of Dr. Tina Tsai Optometry in San Leandro, California, before moving to Portland and opening The Eye Studio in May of 2005.
She is, first and foremost, a warm and caring optometrist who is driven by the desire to find the best way to correct vision problems for her patients. She is a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa National Optometric Honor Society and American Academy of Orthokeratology.
Dr. Tsai and her husband, Jay, have two sons, Ryan and Joshua. The family enjoys traveling and taking road trips in the Pacific Northwest. Dr. Tsai is also an avid runner and usually runs several half marathons every year. She is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and Taiwanese as well as English.
Dr. Helen Kim, O.D.
Optometrist Dr. Helen Kim joined our practice in 2013. She received her Doctorate in Optometry with Honors from the University of California, Berkeley School of Optometry. Dr. Kim worked at a private practice in Seattle, and at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in Tacoma, Washington before moving back to her hometown in Portland.
She has particular interest in ocular disease and specialty contact lenses such as rigid gas permeable lenses and scleral lenses for special corneal conditions. Dr. Kim has also been involved with VOSH International (Volunteers of Optometric Services to Humanity) since 2008, serving in Honduras and Mexico and hopefully other countries in the future.
Dr. Kim and her husband, Gabriel, are excited to call Portland their home again. They like to travel abroad and learn about other cultures.
Optical Manager, ABO Certified David Fuller was born and raised in Oregon. He has been an optician since 2006, before that working in information technologies. David lives with his wife and three kids in a 1920’s farmhouse that they are slowly bringing back to life.
David is very interested in the technical aspects of eye care. In addition to working in the lab cutting lenses for eyewear, he likes to help patients learn about their eyes and endeavors to make it a fun experience. In his free time he enjoys playing many musical instruments and recording in his own studio for himself and others.
Optician Julie Bustamante is a born and raised Oregonian who recently moved back to the area from Alaska. She started out working in the lab and lens-making division of the optical industry in 2005 and has since moved into opticianry. She is interested in the cosmetic fitting of spectacles and determining the proper lens style for our patients’ needs.
Julie likes the creativity of design that comes with eyewear and is always able to find a frame and lens style that suit patients’ personal needs. In her spare time she enjoys hiking with her dogs, extreme motor sports, reading, painting, making mosaic art, and cooking.
Front Desk Coordinator Lynne Cherry answers the phone, greets visitors, and prepares patient charts. She was born in Oklahoma, grew up in Tennessee, and recently made her way to Oregon to explore the Pacific Northwest with her husband and her corgi. Lynne received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Vanderbilt University in Spanish and Medicine, Health, and Society, then spent two years working at the front desk of a Vanderbilt University Medical Center outpatient clinic in Nashville, Tennessee. She intends to pursue a master’s degree in a health-related field in the near future.
Lynne enjoys learning about nutrition and health, trying new restaurants, going on road trips, and traveling the world. Her favorite trips thus far include studying abroad in Palma de Mallorca, Spain for a semester in college and attending her sister-in-law’s wedding in India.
Insurance and Billing Specialist Kirsten Narro has been employed in the eye care field since 1997 when she took a part-time job to get out of the house while raising her two daughters.
She grew up in the Pacific Northwest and never tires of exploring the state, whether it be the mountain ranges, coast or the high desert in central Oregon. Mostly she enjoys catching up with her daughters now that they are young adults. “They keep me young and we have so much fun together just being ourselves and sharing laughs,” she says.
Patient Care Coordinator
Maddy Royse was born and raised in the Portland metro area. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Biology. She enjoys science, research and helping people, so working in healthcare has been a perfect fit. As an insurance specialist, she researches patients’ benefits and makes sure that they are familiar with their coverage prior to received eye care. She finds that providing this service and being surrounded by fashionable eyewear are just a couple of the highlights of being a team member at The Eye Studio.
